Essex Steam Train & Riverboat Trip

Date: Friday, July 18th
Transportation: Deluxe Motor Coach (Hampton Jitney)
Departure: 7:30 AM from Harborfields Public Library Ann Street Side
Return: Approx. 6:00 PM

Join us for a 2.5-hour scenic journey through the unspoiled Connecticut River Valley. Our adventure begins at the historic 1892 Essex Station, where a steam locomotive will take us on a narrated 12-mile round trip through the charming New England towns of Deep River and Chester.

Itinerary & Highlights

🚂 Train Ride & Lunch Onboard
Enjoy a relaxing train ride while savoring a delicious meal. Please select one of the following options:

  • Braised Beef Tips in red wine over mashed potatoes with seasonal roasted vegetables
  • Chicken Francaise with white wine, lemon, butter, fresh herbs & fingerling potatoes
  • Eggplant Rollatini with whipped ricotta and fresh mozzarella over angel hair pasta

🛳️ Becky Thatcher Riverboat Cruise
At Deep River Landing, we’ll board the Becky Thatcher riverboat for a 1.25-hour cruise along the scenic Connecticut River. Take in breathtaking views of coves, inlets, marshes, and historic landmarks like Gillette Castle, Goodspeed Opera House, and the Haddam Swing Bridge.

After the cruise, we’ll reboard the steam train for the return trip to Essex Station.

The cost of the trip is $199 per person (18+) and includes transportation, lunch, tours, and all gratuities. Online and in-person registration is underway. Payment is due at the time of registration. No refunds unless we can fill your space from a waiting list. Please make checks payable to The Friends of the Library.
