  • MISSION STATEMENT (final revision 7/29/99)

The Harborfields Public Library is a focal point of the community, working with local organizations to act as a unifying force for the community.

The Library exists first and foremost to serve its patrons by providing educational and recreational materials and technological resources, supplemented by an active schedule of programs and exhibits.

The Library strives to serve all members of the community from the youngest to the oldest, to make a continual effort to keep the community informed of its services and activities, to attract new users, and to reach out to those unable to physically visit the library.

  • How do I join the Library?
Harborfields Public Library cards are issued to residents of Harborfields Central School District #6. To join the library and obtain a library card you must apply in person at the circulation desk and bring two forms of identification (one with a photo) to prove residency. A library card entitles its holder to all services of the Harborfields Public Library plus book borrowing privileges at any other Suffolk County public library.  Children may obtain a card when they are able to print their first and last name on a library card application. The parent or guardian must possess a Harborfields Library card in good standing.  Your library card will be valid for three years, at which time you will need to verify proof of residency to renew your library card.
  • Fax # 631-757-7216
We have made some changes in our public fax policy to make it easier for you to use this service.  The fee per outgoing fax transmission will now be $2.00 but  will no longer require that you charge the call to your home phone.  This was a major point of frustration for many fax users.  The fee for incoming faxes remains the same - $1.00 per page received, including any cover sheets.
  • Loan Period For Materials
Most materials circulate for 21 days.
New DVD's circulate for 3 days - they are due back by closing time on the third day.
  • Equipment
The Library has audiovisual equipment for loan to members of the Harborfields Public Library. Contact a Reference Librarian for further information regarding specific equipment and loan periods.
